GN is the abbreviated name for gastronorm, the industry-standard measurement established by the European Standards Committee to standardise container sizes across the catering industry. However, it is more commonly used to refer to a storage container or pan for cooking and storing hot and cold food.
The sizes used for gastronorms refer to the outer dimensions of the containers and pans. These measurements are used globally, so the basic measure of GN-1/1 equates to 530 x 325mm.
